Cynthia S. Deale is a Professor in the School of Hospitality Leadership in the College of Business at East Carolina University. She previously worked at Western Carolina University, the Kemmons Wilson School of Hospitality & Resort Management at the University of Memphis, the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, and the University of Denver.
Dr. Deale teaches a variety of courses including those focused on the introduction to hospitality and tourism, tourism, service, and sustainability. Her research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning, sustainability, and tourism and hospitality management practices, and she has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles. In addition, she served for many years as a facilitator for the Certified Hospitality Educator workshop. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Denver, her M.S. from Michigan State University, and her B.S. from the University of Puget Sound. She has served in a leadership capacity on the board of the International Council of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) (as Vice President in 2009-2010, President in 2010-2011, and Immediate Past President in 2011-2012).
She is married, has three grown children, three adorable grandchildren, and enjoys traveling. She also loves the beauty of the great state of North Carolina, from the mountains to the sea!
